GREAT BARRIER REEF
Whether you're a diver or a snorkeller, you've
come to the right place!
Daintree Secrets is situated only 17 kilometres
from The Outer Barrier Reef. With daily trips out of Cape
Tribulation (20 mins away) and Port Douglas (60 mins away),
‘Halwyn’ is the perfect place to discover the
beauty and magnificence of the famous Great Barrier Reef.
The Great Barrier Reef stretches right along the Queensland
coast and is recognised as one of the world’s best diving
and snorkelling destinations. The Great Barrier Reef is one
of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world with it’s
amazing underwater botanical gardens and has an extraordinary
diverse ecosystem. This is the only place in the world where
two World Heritage areas exist side by side. The coral reefs
remain unchanged by human interference and are a shelter for
a myriad of fishes, anemones, corals & sea ferns. Take
the plunge and discover this wide, blue wonder accessible
to all … azure seas sparkling against crystal white
sand, tropical islands, warm inviting waters home to a colourful
kaleidoscope of reefs, shoals, coral cays and mysterious shipwrecks
teeming with exotic tropical marine life. A mild climate and
clear visibility make year-round diving a vibrant reality.
With winter water temperatures dropping to a balmy 25 degrees
Celsius (77F), it’s the perfect way to spend a winter’s
day. Summer water temperatures rise to around 28C. It is safe
to swim year-round in the tropics, however during the warmer
months from November to May, additional precautions may be
necessary due to the presence of marine stingers.
Whether you are a novice snorkeller or an
experienced certified Scuba Diver you can join a day trip
or a live-aboard tour from Cairns and Port Douglas to explore
the reef of the Coral Sea. You can snorkel or dive on the
edge of the continental shelf in crystal clear water out at
Agincourt Reef, feed giant cod at the Cod Hole, explore the
waters surrounding a secluded coral cay, base yourself on
a live-aboard dive boat or on one of the off-shore island
resorts such as Green, Fitzroy, Lizard, Dunk or Bedarra. Wherever
you go, colourful tropical fish, turtles, rays and even reef
sharks wait to welcome you into their world.
The Reef Charters also leave from the north
side of Cape Tribulation and you will either visit Mackay
Reef or Undine Reef. For snorkellers at Mackay Reef the reef
is only 2 - 4 metres below the surface. Activities include
swimming, snorkelling, diving, sailing and natural history
tours with resident marine biologists. Bookings are essential.
